Mozambique gets debt relief

The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have approved a debt relief package for Mozambique worth nearly three billion dollars. The package is part of an international initiative to help up to fifteen heavily-indebted poor countries which are committed to reform. It’s due to be finalized in a year’s time. Mozambique has a total debt of just over three billion dollars. Its Finance Minister (Tomaz Salomao) thanked international creditors for supporting the programme, but said his government had hoped for one-hundred per cent relief. Source : news.bbc.co.uk |
