Aug. 22–Legislation that would protect consumer privacy passed a state Assembly committee Tuesday, but Gov. Gray Davis is pushing for amendments that address concerns in the banking and finance industry. The bill, SB 773, would force most companies to obtain specific permission from customers before disseminating personal information to other financial firms.
