Jan. 3–IRVING, Texas–Ace Cash Express, the nation’s largest check-cashing chain, said Thursday that it paid more than $750,000 to settle lawsuits with Florida and Ohio over the company’s unregulated Goleta National Bank small-loan products.

The bank, based in Goleta, Calif., originated the up to $500, 14-day, unsecured or “payday” loans.

Under the settlements, Ace can still offer short-term loans, but they must be regulated by the Florida and Ohio state banking and finance departments.
